REVIEW OF THE EP LAND OF OLD BY ELDERTALE

Eldertale is a melodic folk metal band from Ukraine formed in 2005 but being more active since 2012, releasing their first EP in June 2014, they deliver a pure folk pagan metal, adding some neoclassical drippings and powerful moments, creating in general rich structures in terms of composition as melodic instrumentals and growling vocals are the common strategy for this headbanging EP.

The band break the ice with Exile, as the choirs mark the powerful entry of complex drumbeats and melodic background with an excellent composition on the verses, really intense and good crescendo part at the end; this track defines perfectly the band's sound.

Land of Old might be one of the best tracks of this style I've ever listened, it starts with an instrumental orchestrated melody, the composition is outstanding. Then this intense shot goes increscendo, adding army marching rhythms on drums, to literally explode in a headbanging anthem, vocals and instrumental are in perfect harmony and the transitions between changes virtuously made, the lyrics also are powerful and the melodic growling voice are the best in the EP, also remarkable rhythms on the drums with drippings of power, thrash and death metal, bass is also excellent on the solo; the perfect highlight of what this band is capable of.

Finally the EP closes with Time of ancient, mid tempo traditional folk pagan metal, as seen on the rest of the material, this track follows the path of adding melodic power metal structures, piano and orchestrated parts are, again, amazingly well composed.

Eldertale first EP got a crystal clear production, it's headbanging from start to finish, the compositions are sophisticated including catchy melodies and awesome orchestrated parts, drums should have more presence next time, but the final result is overwhelming, just can't wait for the full length!

REVIEW OF THE EP ADRENALINE SHOT BY AMKEN

Amken is a thrash metal band formed in 2011 in Greece, releasing independently their first EP Adrenaline Shot on the 30th November 2014.

Amken style is genuine thrash metal, simple and straight to your brains, the harsh low to high pitched vocals are amazing and also the guitar-drums team play is really well composed to take you to the mosh pit right away; you will find that visceral thrash attack seen on Razor or Exodus.

Adrenaline shot bangs with the tittle track, straight headbanging and powerful wild style, the rhythms go mid and fast really effectively, linking with Zombie Pets in another breathtaking thrash missile, this time comprising more technical elements, with excellent vocal parts and special mention to the drum pounding blasts, including one of their best chorus and a highlight of the band's style.

The dark introduction of Nightmare leads to another in crescendo thrash shot, continuing the nonstop headbanging feeling with a good structure and remarkable melodic sharp vocal sections linking to the final track God's asleep, clearly their best act, introducing deeper and epic sensations to the mixture, the theatrical performance of the vocalist is outstanding, the bass sounds bloody well, dirty and evil as hell as the thrash machinery evolves to a fast thrash symphony that will leave you hungry for more.

Amken brought to light their first Ep leaving a really good impression, their thrash is aggressive and effective, without being extremely technical this cut is wild and violent, showing that the weapons are ready to attack.

INTERVIEW WITH KAMIL "MADNESS" FROM THUNDERWAR

The epic death metal band Thunderwar released their first EP Birth of Thunder last year 2013, getting global recognition and generally very positive feedback from the media (click here to read the review), and now they are getting ready for their first studio album that could come to light anytime in 2015.

Meanwhile I had the chance to interview the vocalist and bass master Kamil "Madness":

- Hi! It’s a pleasure to interview you so Thank you for taking the 

time.

Hail to England!

- Thunderwar is a new band that released its first EP in 2013, tell me 

the beginnings, how did you choose the name and how the band was formed?

It's a long and boring story. I will try to shorten it.  I’ve known Vit, 

the drummer for a long time. We both played in thrash metal band when we 

were kids. When our squad broke up, we decided to create new, heavier 

and more devilish pack. We were looking for good guitarists, who love 

death metal.

We met them by chance. I knew Olszak and Witold by sight from concerts. 

I didn't know that I will play with them in Thunderwar. They came to the 

rehearsal and they were delighted.  They had the experience and they 

were hungry for metal, just like me and Vit. From the start we were on 

the same page. Now we are true friends.  At the beginning we were called 

Perun, in the name of the pagan, Slavic God - Perun The Thunderer. Then 

we recorded the first single called "Eagle of Glory" - our metal 

interpretation of Polish national emblem. We changed the name because we 

wanted to be more understandable to foreigners and also still to refer 

to the old name. So now we are Thunderwar. Word formation at the level 

of a high school student, but we think it sounds cool.

- How long did it take to create the birth of thunder? Are you happy 

with the result?

First and foremost, EP "The Birth of Thunder" is just a remain of the 

first album that was never released. We chose the best tracks from 

rejected by us album, and this is the way how The Birth of Thunder 

appeared. We are happy with the result. People like it, we also like it. 

If that record came out in that shape back then, surely we wouldn't be 

in such good moods today.  That material really sucked. Not because 

compositions were weak. Sound and mixes were totally fucked. We had to 

rescue our stuff but only three tracks survived.  I think that the whole 

process of creating our debut took more than one year.

- How did the international media respond after the release of your 

first EP?

We owe the big response to our managers. They shipped the material 

wherever they could. The result is the increasing number of fans from 

all around the world, especially from USA, UK and Brazil.  It's fucking 

awesome when someone from the other end of the globe can hear and  

appreciate our blasphemous work.

- Could you describe the metal scene in Poland?

Poland is a powerful metal bastion. Every metal maniac should know bands 

like Vader, Behemoth or Decapitated. We are very proud of these bands. 

But our metal scene isn't only those three hordes. There is a fucking 

great underground scene in Poland. Most of these bands are just amazing. 

We played national tour with mighty Pandemonium, Hellspawn and Deep 

Desolation.  Unforgettable memories and well spent time.  Also we played 

with Azarath, powerful formation from Tczew. They went on tour with 

Morbid Angel in Poland. I can’t forget to mention our friends from 

Bestiality and Morthus, young bands with great potential and talent. I 

especially recommend you polish black metal bands like Furia, Mgła, 

Plaga, Morowe or Infernal War.

- The epic death metal style of Thunderwar is really well composed and 

performed, what are your influences?

Thanks! It is hard to say. We listen to a lot of music. Blues, hard 

rock, heavy, thrash, death and black metal. It is our religion. But I 

think our greatest idols like Bathory, Dissection or Morbid Angel have 

the greatest impact on us. Of course, we always try to create our own 

climate. I think we succeeded, but people usually associate us with a 

mix of American and Swedish metal scene. Maybe they're god damn right.

- Are you preparing a full length? If so, how is the process going? 

Could you anticipate some details?

Actually we are recording a new album. Drums and guitars are done. Next 

step - bass and vocals.

Want some details? Hmm... Full album is going to be darker and more epic 

than "The Birth of Thunder". You won't be disappointed.

- Have you signed with any record label?

No, we haven't yet.

- Are there plans to tour Europe in the future?

There aren't any special plans for now. But when we are finally done 

with our LP, certainly we will think about conquering Europe.

- Which countries would you like to play?

We have never played abroad, so we’re going to be excited no matter 

which country it would be.

- You have shared stage with big names like Amon Amarth, which other 

bands have shared stage with Thunderwar?

We have also shared stage with such stars as Carcass, Obituary and 

Azarath. We hope the list will be much longer in the future!

- One of the bands you play with are Morthus, I see they share similar 

tastes, and also are a new band with one EP, do you know them? How is 

the relation with Morthus?

Yeah, we know these bastards.  We are often sharing the stage together. 

I really like them!

- Which bands would you like to share stage in the future?

Hmm… tough question. I would love to play with pioneers of death and 

black metal, who motivate us to fight. I don't know, maybe Morbid Angel, 

Watain, Behemoth or Entombed?

- Tell me how do you remember your best moment on stage.

It was when we played before Carcass in Warsaw. The place was full, it 

was our first performance with such a large audience. When we played our 

death metal epos – Vimana: The Chariots in Heaven, I showed them horns 

from the stage.  Almost the entire audience responded with the same 

gesture. It was very meaningful and memorable moment for me. I was 

exhausted but it filled me with extraordinary energy and gave me 

strength for the rest of the show.

- Could you leave a message for your fans?

What can I say? Wait for new album, and be ready for freezing cold, and 

demonic blizzard, because The Thunderer doesn't show mercy!  Stay heavy.

- Thank you so much for your time and also thanks to your manager Slawomir for making 

it possible, hope to see you soon in London!

REVIEW OF THE EP TRAPPED IN A NIGHTMARE BY REPULSOR

Repulsor is a polish speed thrash metal band formed in 2010, with only a demo and one Ep released in 2013, and re-released by Thrashing Madness label in 2014; the band drink straight from the roots of forceful thrash metal bands like Exodus or Razor, with loads of technical palm muted riffs at high speed drum shots, the vocals make the job efficiently with harsh and sharp high pitched techniques in general, forged for the head banging action without a break.

Toxic Tomorrow demonstrates straight away what the band is all about, as the drums explode in a sudden impact attack of high speed and breathtaking metal, the guitar riffs find the harmony alternating palm muted shots with shredding parts; as RMDH (real monsters die hard) attack without mercy in another authentic and aggressive thrash anthem with an excellent structure that will keep you in the moshpit, and comprising effectively the band's sound.

After the acoustic lull of The Summoning, the impressive riffs of To the coven take the action in one of their best hits of fast paced, raw and angry speed thrash metal, this time the guitars and vocals create a powerful and very straight chorus, those to be screamed at the gigs with the fists in the air, linked with Killing Instinct, creating a funny intro that obviously explodes like an atomic bomb in another top shot of the band, this time the ultra fast is combined with powerful mid tempo parts, denoting a good level of composition with remarkable job in the bridge and chorus.

The drum attack of Stained Heritage is the last of this Ep, including some power-thrash, palm muted and more melodic riffs, where fast and mid tempo dance in harmony always with a neck breaking feeling.

Being the first Ep, Repulsor forged a professional job, making clear what true speed thrash metal is all about, with Trapped in a nightmare there is no need to innovate yet, but following the path and being already on the level of bands like Havok, Crisix or Angelus Apatrida is without a doubt exceptional, the thrashing machinery of Repulsor is ready to attack!

REVIEW OF THE ALBUM FIRES OF REDEMPTION BY BANDEMONIC (10-11-2014)

Bandemonic is a traditional heavy metal band from Ioannina, Greece, formed in 2009 and releasing their first EP Chains in 2012 (click to read the review), receiving positive feedback by the media and allowing the band to share stage with important bands like Enforcer, Grim Reaper or Helstar. After working hard on the new album, the band finally signed with Steel Gallery Records in October 2014 and now the machine is fully charged ready to release their Fires of redemption the next 10th of November 2014.

The album sounds much more professional and solid than their first Ep two years ago, for those who realised about their potential previously, will find out how right we were now that this album is completed, because what you are about to listen is a powerful heavy metal machine that, as a new band, will hit the true metal scene.

Getting the deep detail this work deserves, the album starts with Fires of Redemption as an instrumental epic track with well composed melodic violins and acoustic guitars to literally explode in a thrash influenced guitar riff of the mid paced Torment, the vocals are now outstandingly improved, stronger and more controlled than before, brilliant job on the combination of technical drum rhythms and guitar performance denoting a complex composition linked with Disingenuous as one of the best of the album, the guitars well demonstrate it with an excellent aggressive and sharp beginning, soon to create the head banging feeling with a catchy chorus coming from the power and epic metal elements, the melodies on the verses and the vocal interpretation have been taken care very well with an amazing result.

Martyr comes in a crescendo structure with strong guitar riffs and power metal vocal drippings bringing memories from Queensrÿche style with awesome high pitched parts, but with added thrash elements on the instrumental, this time the structure and chorus denote a modern 90s influence; as we continue with The awakening, as a slow mid paced act with great changes of pulse, with a genuine power metal chorus found among all the elements that Bandemonic create.

Now its time for the most epic bomb of the band to date, Burn the witch is probably the most sophisticated track they've done with neck breaking parts and breathtaking theatrical vocal verses including the fact that some guitar riffs are purely thrash metal, this is a gem that perfect encapsulates the band's style.

Inner battle slow the machinery but keep the high quality in composition, remembering their first EP patterns, to attack with Bullet as another fast paced headbanging missile with high pitched vocals and fast palm muted and galloping riffs, remarkable the contrast of aggressive and melodic parts.

Guardians of time is the most professional track of the album, with an ascending intensity leading to an epic forceful and addictive chorus, the vocals demonstrate his best job and the instrumentals are in harmony and tremendously intense and powerful.

If there was a song that was the pure sign of the band in their EP, a song that will make you remember this band as many other songs such as Heavier than metal for Skull Fist, all or nothing for Cauldron or Full speed or no speed for Striker; here we have The Seeker for Bandemonic, the masterpiece from the first EP is now re-recorded with the higher quality that this album have in general, the vocals are definitely better and fresher than before, I really liked they recorded this track for the new album, its totally headbanging and genuine old school heavy metal, making the perfect ending of a great album.

Fires of redemption will be the necessary step that will hopefully catapult this band to the front of the traditional heavy metal scene, the quality of the compositions and an excellent production situate the band in the level of bands like Striker, in fact they have things in common such as the thrash metal influences on the guitars combined with heavy and US power metal vocal techniques.

Bandemonic demonstrated they are here to attack with a powerful force that deserves to be echoed around the globe.

REVIEW OF THE ALBUM SHOUT FOR HEAVY METAL BY MORTICIAN (14th november 2014)

Mortician is a genuine heavy metal band from Austria, formed in 1983 and releasing cult heavy metal materials on that time consisting in a demo and EP No War in 1987 with excellent media feedback, and changing line up for another demo in 1989 but without being as successful as their first EP, the band split in 1990. Twenty years after their last concert, the reunion of Mortician was a reality, forming a solid lineup with the two founder members Patrick (bass) and Thomas (guitar), joining forces with Daniel Khan on the vocals and Gergely Nagy on drums.


Soon the new Mortician released their first full length called Mortician via Pure Steel Records, a really high quality album showing a renovated energy from the Austrian quartet. Finally the band went again to the studio to forge their second bomb called Shout for heavy metal, released by Pure Steel Records and coming the next 14th November 2014

The sound of Mortician and their new album, is influenced by the greatest heavy metal bands from the 80s such as Accept and Judas Priest, combining the aggressive edge from those giants with the power metal showed on bands like Grave Digger, showing comparable composition strategy on verses, strong Teutonic guitar performance and catchy and repetitive choruses in general. 

Powerful is the word to use to describe the beginning of the album, the tittle track Shout for Heavy metal will make you bang your head straight away, mid strong pulse and catchy chorus in general, with a remarkable high pitched performance on the vocals, continued by Eagle Spy following similar patterns, excellent riff performance and really good progression on the verses, guitar riffs are outstanding and the drums do a good job on the pedals, a demonstration of true power heavy metal style.

Promised land heralds an effective riff in good harmony with the vocals, developing galloping in crescendo progressions and another good job on the vocal performance with clean and sharp techniques as the fast paced track Rock Power kicks in with drippings of Accept and Saxon in a powerful and headbanging feeling.

The Devil you know is another full power-heavy metal track with extremely catchy chorus, the ascending intensity this track create is astonishing, changing vocal techniques on the clean side in one hand to be answered by Udo style on the other hand, being a good highlight of the album among other tracks like Black Eyes, whose powerful riff will be remembered, this time vocals act with short shots under a mid tempo forceful changing rhythms, being one of the best acts the band have created.

Inner Self attacks with thrash metal drippings and high and lows on the vocals, melodies contains some modern details, and the attitude remains wild all over this song, the quality on the composition is better and more sophisticated, applicable also to the next track Hate, where the band show a more complex structures adding acoustic parts that are transformed into speed metal sections, great guitar riffs bringing memories from the Children of the grave track by Black Sabbath.

Wrong way finalise the album bringing some hard rocker attitude to the mixture that Mortician have shown already, the mid pulsed track encapsulates well what the band's style is about, showing a really exceptional guitar work.

Mortician follow the path of true metal once again with this album, The compositions are brilliant, however that could be more diverse, the patterns are followed in similar ways on most of the tracks.

Overall, the result is marvellous, highlighting tracks like Black Eyes, The devil you know or the tittle track. Shout for heavy metal will be an essential not only Grave Digger and Accept fans but also for NWOBHM maniacs hungry for louder than hell true metal records.

REVIEW OF THE EP THE LOST ONES BY BLOODRED

Bloodred is a blackened death metal band with epic influences, formed in 2009 in Stuttgart by Ron Merz, being a solo band with him composing and playing all the instruments, recording the first EP released in June 2014 digitally with physical copies in August, Joris Nihenkuis recorded all the drums, leaving the band as a studio project at the moment.

Bloodred drink from the roots of the blackened death metal as they well demonstrate on the first track Spirits of the death, the drums heralds a sophisticated performance changing death and black metal style with the guitars, even showing parts of folk melodies; the essential epic structure is present and goes in crescendo to become the key point of this song.

The harsh and growling techniques on the vocals are correctly managed and boost the final sound to a forceful and headbanging feeling, special mention to the vocal performance on their second and final track of their EP, The lost ones, playing with death and thrash metal elements backed by a remarkably headbanging galloping pulse, evolving in intensity and finalising with folk based notes within an epic and powerful structure.

Bloodred managed a crystal clear production on their first creation, well feed by sophisticated compositions, a gem of the genre with just the first EP!

REVIEW OF LET THE THUNDER ROAR BY BLACK TRACK

Black Track is a traditional heavy/speed metal from Mexico, formed in 2010 and releasing two demos in 2011 and 2012 to finally release an EP  the 12th of April 2014, called Let the thunder Roar via Metal Ways Records and it's inclusive of their second demo as bonus tracks. The band is comprised by Adrian on the bass, Lyon on the drums, Spider as the lead guitars and Rayo on the vocals and rhythm axe. their style heralds a speed heavy metal influenced by bands like Agent Steel and Iron Maiden on the roots and also from New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal bands (like Enforcer or Striker) with a very straight and strong compositions.

Let the Thunder Roar starts with the tittle track, with the rain and thunder unveiling an authentic speed metal headbanging anthem, remarkable instrumental all over, the harmony is perfect with the vocals and the rest of the band with a mid-high pitched vocals combining clean and sharp styles; with no lull The Wolf bites tonight start with a forceful riff in another excellent act with some Judas Priest memories on the changes of rhythm twisted with the Iron Maiden style by Adrian and Lyon; exceptional track continued by the instrumental Black Dragon (In Tokyo), well done melodies and headbanging action by axe masters and bassist.

Speed Force attack without warning, one of the fastest speed metal tracks with remarkable job by Rayo where we can find some high pitched screams mixed with impulsive combat vocal shots, outstanding changes of pulse and guitar solos noticing the influence of the Masters of Metal (Agent Steel) here and also on Cosmic Metal/ Into the darkness, being one of the best songs in the EP, wrecking necks from the beginning, mixed high pitched vocal parts with growling techniques are remarkable, but mid ranged parts have to be controlled better though.

After this headbanging EP the rest of the material belongs to the second demo, included here as a bonus tracks. Warrior's Attack  is the first in line of the bonus tracks and combines an excellent chorus and instrumental with a power feeling, however the vocals still needed to be improved on the melodic sections. Demon is another strong speed metal bomb, impulsive on the vocals (better performed here).

The werewolf bring some thrash metal influence, good headbanging song finishing with Revenge is Mine (Heavy Metal Command), with an accelerating riff on the Iron Maiden influence side, vocals are used better here keeping the mid-high range mixing with short hasty sharp style; the guitars and drums work together really good on the galloping pulse that shades to the silence.

Black Track forged really good material, the roots of heavy speed metal that influenced the band made them pass successfully this point of entry, bounding to develop a heavy speed metal with a large range on the vocals and a forceful instrumental; As a first EP this is an exceptional job, the vocals have improved since their demo section as you can see how better is the EP compared with the bonus tracks that follows,still need of improvement but good job! keep a close eye on them because they really have what it takes to keep it true.

REVIEW FIRST EP BY TOLEDO STEEL

Toledo Steel are a classic heavy metal band from Southampton, UK, formed in 2011 and releasing their first demo in december 2012, Toledo Steel have been touring around the country and finally after adding the second guitarist to the band the first EP came out in August 2013, consisting in three missiles of pure heavy metal encapsulating the essence of NWOBHM.
The band comprises Rich Rutter on the vocals, Kyle House and Tom Potter on the guitars, David Lovell with the bass and Matt Dobson on drums.

The ep starts with Alcatraz with a classic heavy speed metal riff, headbanging moshpiting pulse developing a strong straight high pitched vocals, awesome sharp sound all over the song by Rich and axe masters Kyle and Tom, the chorus is also exceptional, made to be singed along in every gig, fists in the air; as we continue with Black widow, taking reminiscences from Iron Maiden and memories of heavier than metal by Skull Fist on the main riff, forging a powerful melodies on the vocals where the lows and high pitched styles are amazingly well combined; well done on the drums creating Judas priest late 70s techniques combined with drippings of power metal styled structure.

Flames arise take us back to the mid 80s with a truly headbanging authentic heavy speed metal with drippings of epic melodies, reminiscences of bands like Virtue, the mid tempo changing rhythm is outstanding, true metal in every chord! The instrumental parts are in an excellent harmony leaving you breathless til the end!

Overall this first EP by Toledo Steel  is riveting from start to finish with a crystal clear production, awesome job by every single member of the band,for sure Toledo Steel not only are here to stay, this band will probably be one of the leading bands of the new wave of traditional heavy metal.

Blizzen is a Traditional Heavy metal band from Germany, formed in January 2014 and just released their first demo. The band comprises Gereon Nikolay on drums, Marvin Kiefer and Andi Heindl on the guitars and Daniel Stecki on the vocals and the bass.

The style of the band is genuine heavy speed metal influenced by big bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden but also following the steps from bands like Virtue and Tokyo Blade, developing also a similar touch like Skull Fist or Enforcer. This first demo consist in three killer tracks starting with the catchy Gone Wild as a fast tempo speed metal bomb with a great job by Gereon on the pedal and also introducing high pitched vocals that evolves from clean high tones to mid sharp techniques, riveting from start to finish, this powerful track is continued by Peace is for the weak, as a mid tempo song, excellent on the guitars with reminiscences of Between the hammer and the anvil on the riffs,the long chorus is amazingly epic and improved with a crescendo ending.

Strike the hammer is the last track of this demo as it starts straight with a riff on the style of Iron Maiden to evolve to a mid fast tempo authentic heavy speed metal, forging an outstanding galloping pulse and melodic vocals on the bridge, the chorus is surprisingly strong, definitely you will raise your fists singing along and headbanging till the end.

Blizzen got what it takes to become a top band on this new wave of traditional heavy metal, the attitude is energetic as it should be, the sound need to be improved in the studio as well as the consistency on the vocals, but being their first demo is just excellent! Keep an eye on this guys because they start strong and ready to strike the hammer!

REVIEW OF THE EP CHAINS BY BANDEMONIC

Bandemonic is a heavy metal band from Ioannina, Greece, formed in 2009 they worked hard on their first EP "Chains" released in 2012 and now getting ready for their first full length coming next October; let's get this EP in detail!

The album is in general a combination of mid-fast tempo tracks in contrast with slow pulse ballads situating the style into the early 80s era mixed with Judas Priest influenced from the 90s.
The seeker begins with a dark atmosphere background rain as the intro explodes in an outstanding classic heavy speed metal style piece, as the rhythm accelerates getting you into the moshpit and keeping you banging your head, definitely a heavy metal anthem to be remembered.

Chains is a mid tempo strong and straight track with a remarkable job by the vocalist demonstrating the high pitched screams mixed with mids and lows, one of the best of the EP with a tremendous architecture with headbanging changes of speed continued by one of the ballads, Don't regret...just regret, a crescendo structure track that grows in an intense ballad following to Nightmare, a fast-mid changing rhythm heavy metal track with even some oldschool thrash metal breathtaking dripping moments.

Sail to Heaven powerful start reveal a potent ballad with a sophisticated act on the drums, the last two songs are more complex in composition than the other tracks! Excellent job on the guitars at the end of the song, linking it to the last act, Hunting Illusions, continuing the rhythm of the previous ballad with reminiscences to The crimson idol era by WASP, and changing the pulse amazingly well in the middle of the track detonating the pure classic heavy metal bomb being the highlights of the band style.

Admirable job! after listening to the ep in detail you can see the whole story, being a job in harmony like a concept album where the changes of rhythms are abundant, keeping the genuine roots of the old school heavy metal filled with passion and glory. Exceptional job that will leave the listener hungry for more, and the first full length is coming soon so be aware, Bandemonic is rising!

REVIEW EP THE ABYSS BY MORTHUS

Morthus is a death/black metal band from Poland formed in November 2012 by four death metal maniacs following their influences of bands like Morbid Angel, Unleashed or Dissection, mixing all that to forge a very sophisticated epic death metal with black metal elements.
The Abyss is their first EP, released last 7th June 2014 and has been recorded and mixed on Mandragora Studios.

The EP starts with Torment representing the Abyss as an atmospheric introduction with screams of agony and chaos that leads to the death metal riffs of hell, mixed with banging thrash metal pulse that continues with Beast from the Abyss, where the guitar riff and the death metal drums explodes in an epic structure, taking the listener to a headbanging track, the riffs are something exceptional and I really have to remark the jobs on the drums, so sophisticated where you can appreciate various different elements and rhythm changes all over. The growling vocals makes the perfect job in harmony with the rest of the band, outstanding straight and powerful chorus also to make this the sign of the band as pure epic death metal masterpiece.

But if you weren't surprised yet, next track called In the White Wolf's Kingdom is going to make you break your necks as they develop a mid-tempo black metal rhythm mixed with the death apocalypse, the vocals here are amazingly well played along with the instrumental. The composition in this track is excellent, creating an old school black/heavy metal contrasts with their death metal elements.

Overall, Morthus forged an outstanding, astonishing first EP, the crystal clear production is something remarkable and enjoyable that will take them to the next level. This is a very professional job and I can't wait to see what these guys can do in the future because If they continue working hard like now, they will go very far to be one of top bands of the death metal scene.
