REVIEW OF THE ALBUM "FACING THE FALLOUT" BY SHADOWBANE (16/1/2015)

Shadowbane is a power metal band from Germany formed in 2007 and releasing only their demo Dystopia independently in 2010,becoming a really promising band, and now ready to conquer Europe with their upcoming album Facing the Fallout, due to be release next 16th of January of 2015 via Pure Steel Records.
Shadowbane breath from the flames of the authentic heavy-speed metal mixing German and US power metal effectively, having similarities with bands like Accept, Helloween or Grave digger combined with epic Manilla Road or Queensrÿche, high pitched clean and sharp vocals, contrasting melody and powerful choruses with technical guitar riffs and fast pounding drumbeats.

The album opens with the Red alert instrumental apocalyptic shot linked to Beyond the winds of war, powerful heavy start on the line of Accept including palm muted and galloping riffs, changes of pace and good drum performances, but being eclipsed by Traitor, one of their best tracks, including some outstanding riffs and shreddings (remember the Spanish power metal band Avalanch riffs?) headbanging as hell with an excellent structure, better chorus, and remarkable guitar performance.

Under bleeding skies evolves in a straight high speed heavy metal shot with memories of Judas Priest, very well composed on the bridge and the slow paced chorus, special mention to the vocal work on the clean and sharp styles combining aggressive and melodic sections really well; continued by After the fallout, comprising a mid fast tempo pattern of pure US power metal, amazingly well composed and headbanging and coming back to the German Grave digger influence with Dystopia, totally addictive riffs and chorus, forging a memorable bridge.

Tears down the wall explodes like an authentic speed metal track with melodic power metal added to the mixture, the clean vocals are amazing here as the progression with the guitar shredding and the emphasizing drums create and endless headbanging anthem, linked with another highlight of the band style, Badlands law, mid fast shot with a chorus to be shouted on the gigs, drum and guitar structure reminding to the ram it down era of Judas Priest but keeping the powerful sign of the band.

Last division take the Teutonic riff style and mix it with the US power melodies to create a true masterpiece of sophisticated drum shots, epic guitar performances and outstanding bridge and chorus, to finalise with Source of Grief, accelerating the metal machine to a high speed pace; this last bomb combines very well the elements that Shadowbane have used before, rhythms changes, aggressive and frenetic powerful in crescendo verses that make you break your necks in a breathtaking pulse.

Shadowbane managed a really professional production forging an excellent work in every aspect, the album contains masterpieces like Traitor, Last Division or Source of grief being highlights of the album. Shadowbane will step forward to the top of the true power metal scene with Facing the Fallout.

REVIEW OF THE ALBUM CRAWLING OUT OF HELL BY FALLEN ANGEL

Fallen Angel is a power metal band formed in 1983 in New York, releasing their first demo in 1985 and split-up in 1986, being in the shadows until they reunited in 2009, working hard to create their first album Crawling out of hell, first part of three in a conceptual epic saga, followed by the trilogy of fictional novels written by the guitarist John Cruppe. This first album didn't have a major impact when it came to light in 2010, but now in 2014, it has been re-released via Killer Metal Records, bringing this album to light to the main metal scene. The second part is coming, under the name Cast out of heaven.

Fallen angel is inspired by the late 80s and early 90s heavy metal combining power metal and speed metal creating sophisticated compositions , introducing a mid to high pitched raw vocal style, on the line of bands like Warrant, Halford or Exciter. Guitars bring melodies from US power metal including the epic side to the mixture as the drums follow effectively the pace of the band, enriching the sound with excellent technical performances.

The album is completed with twenty tracks, six of them are instrumental introductions developed almost without breaks between the songs, as a concept album; the atmosphere of the winds of Crash to Oblivion take you inside the world of Fallen Angel as the thunder roars to Sinner's vengeance, straight and heavy speed metal bomb that will make you bang your heads with one of the best songs from the band, remarkable job on the drums details and the powerful voice, continuing with the troops marching of March into hell leading to Blood on my soul as a mid tempo US power metal, with a real forceful sound and Halford-like vocal screams.

The grinding wheels of war continues the epic sound to introduce The reapers shall Gather, another highlight for the album, a piece of pure heavy metal with an outstanding high pitched vocals, giving it all and creating a real piece of true metal with excellent chorus to be played again and again.

Arrival raises the dark evil feeling to the battle as the Dark Lord come to scene, with another astonishing speed metal furious style, totally neck breaking on the verses and mid tempo catchy chorus as the Darkness reigns in a mid paced shot, with powerful melodies on the vocal line, showing mid to high sharp screams and progressive instrumental with galloping patterns.

The one who walks alone, with a dark feeling to start, evolves in a mid tempo melodic shot with progressive drippings on the instrumentals, not as aggressive as previous tracks but perfect on vocal performance, continued by the ballad The answer, ascending in intensity from the acoustic to the melodic chorus with influences from Queensrÿche.

The cold orchestrated introduction Respiration Desperation leads to another mid tempo US power metal, The neutral zone, with headbanging force and galloping chorus and drippings of Mercyful fate and Judas Priest as Life or death acoustic notes start exploding in a mid fast shot of pure heavy metal, with really good job on the drum performance and addictive chorus in one of the best vocal combination of styles.

On and on is a slow to mid paced shot, pure strong, powerful heavy metal of those that make you bang your head under an ascending epic feeling, remarkable the clean vocal technique; as Ashes to ashes whispers introduces you to the ballad Leaving all behind, another Queensrÿche style ballad, in crescendo and really intense and well forged, specially in the second half, memorable melodies and perfect creation even reminding the Dio and Iron maiden influences.

Watching mid tempo heralds a good quality on technique and powerful structure, the vocal melodies reminded me to Oliver Magnum on the verses, so good performance linked with Sad wings, ballad with acoustic start and ascending to another intense, amazingly epic anthem to finalize with Grant me Peace, combining the power metal with the aggression of Judas Priest, bringing to light one of the best bridges and most forceful chorus, completing the first part of Fallen Angel's concept works.

This is the result of a really hard work, reflecting a gigantic production That not only will make you bang your head, Fallen Angel are introducing the listener to an epic adventure story that will catch you from the beginning. Looking the album as a whole play, I can Say they forged a masterpiece of authentic heavy metal, introducing speed, power and classic heavy metal defining the true metal in every sense.

INTERVIEW WITH CONVENT GUILT

Convent Guilt just released their first album Guns for hire, via Cruz del Sur records and Shadow Kingdom Records! You can check the detailed review here

This is the interview with the band

Hi guys! First of all thank you very much for taking the time!
No trouble at all. Thanks for taking the time to interview us!

As a little introduction, convent guilt is really new band with a demo in 2012 and the album just released this week, tell me how the band was formed and why did you choose Convent Guilt as your band's name?
Nothing wrong with a quick introduction: Convent Guilt formed in 2010. For years I played in a death/thrash band called Shackles, which also featured both Connie G guitarists. Shackles always had a lot of heavy metal influences and it made sense to have a crack at something along more ‘traditional’ lines. The name came to me at a time I don’t even remember. The idea was to go for a ‘good and evil’ two word name (think of Judas Priest, Angel Witch, Sacred Blade), particularly one that included words that aren’t used all the time. Thus was Convent Guilt born.

How was the process of recording Guns for Hire album?
It was bloody hard work, but you expect that. There’s no point doing a quick job just to save time and money – this thing will stay with you ‘til the end of your days, so you want to do it right. We spent a few weekends getting things to a level we were comfortable with. The album was recorded in the same studio as our demo (A Sharp Studio in Sydney) and I think that familiarity helped.

How long did it take to create it?
Given that none of our demo tracks were recycled for the album, we more or less wrote the songs over a 1 1/2 year period after the demo was recorded. ‘Don’t close your eyes’ is an older song, but it’s an exception.

Epic, hard rocker acdc, black Sabbath and early NWOBHM elements are present when the listener plays any of the tracks, what are the main influences of the band?
One thing I’m proud of with Convent Guilt is different elements come to mind for everyone who listens to the band. Our influences cover a wide range of hard rock and heavy metal, though many NWOBHM bands certainly hold a strong attraction. AC/DC, Aerosmith, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Motorhead, Savatage, Riot, Witchcross, Holocaust, Trespass, Thin Lizzy… the list goes on. Beyond music, we’re strongly influenced by Australian history and the dusty land in which we dwell.

It's something awesome to listen, how the vocals go from the Virtue-like epic style in Angels in black leather, shading to hard rocker drippings in convict at arms and transforming to evil feelings in perverse altar, which style do you feel more comfortable and why?
Thanks, I’m glad you appreciate the rough throat! To be honest, I’m not sure which style is most comfortable. I’m guided by emotion with my vocals, rather than perfect technique. No doubt plenty of people will say that’s a bad thing, but I think feeling and passion is often lost these days. The main thing on the album is variety, as I think the best albums of yore had that. Sure, we have our sound and our style, but we like to mix things up within that context.

How do you feel after this album was finished?
Firstly we felt buggered. That happens when you finish something that takes a lot of time and effort. Then we felt impatient, waiting for the sucker to be released. The overall feeling however is satisfaction, as we’ve come up with an album that we’re proud of and that is an honest reflection of what we do.

How is the international media reacting to the album so far?
The album is released on LP by Cruz del Sur (based in Italy), CD by Shadow Kingdom (based in the USA) and on tape by Dying Victims Productions (based in Germany). I think the fact that our labels are based ‘closer to the action’ has really helped, as there has been a lot of promotion done already. Reviews have been mixed, but you will never please everyone. You have to take them with a grain of salt though, because they often reflect more the taste (or lack of it) of the reviewer than the quality of the music.

How is the traditional heavy metal scene in Australia? Tell me also about the band's tour life, how is it going since the release of your demo in 2012?
The scene here is small, but there is hope. Apart from Convent Guilt, there’s Johnny Touch, Raven Black night, Doomed Beast, Demons Gate, Outcast, The Wizar’d and Dracula at various stages of their careers. We don’t play a lot – maybe half a dozen times a year at most – and shows are sort of ‘one here, one there’, rather than tours. We have four shows around Australia between now and early next year and that’ll just about do us I think.

The album is out now and the band need a tour plan, what are the plans? Is there any national tour coming?
Due to the distance and relatively few decent-sized cities to play in Australia, touring is not really viable. We’re playing in Bendigo, Bathurst, Hobart and Melbourne – and if you check them out on a map you’ll realize there’s a fair bit of country/water in between. Add to that the fact that we all have day jobs and it’s hard to justify a two week jaunt across the land.

It's still early but do you have plans of playing internationally?
Definitely so. The plan is to let the album weave its way into people’s heads and then see if there’s interest in playing overseas. Maybe next year if things go well.

Have you had any offer of playing in another country?

No offers yet. I think we’ll try to go to New Zealand next, as it’s close and easy to arrange. It’s practically another state of Australia anyway.

Tell me about your best experiences on stage.
With Convent Guilt my favourite show was probably the Evil Invaders festival we played in Sydney. As for other bands I’ve played with, Headbangers Open Air with Trench Hell (and in fact the whole Trench Hell tour of Europe) was a blast. The best Shackles show was our first visit to Hobart: leather, whiskey, women and wildfire.

What bands have you shared stage with?
Convent Guilt played with Tankard and Abigail a few months ago. Apart from that, we’ve played with local bands such as Denouncement Pyre, Innsmouth, Hellbringer, Erebus Enthroned and The Corps. We often play with black and death metal bands, as they tend to be our mates and people with similar ideas about music, even if differently portrayed.

Which country would you like to visit and which bands would you like to share stage in the future?
Any country is fine by me. I’ve played throughout Western/Northern Europe and would love to take Connie G over there. The US would be great as well. Hmm, how about England? Would be nice to go back to the old roots. As for who to play with, this sounds like a cop out but we’ll gladly play with any band we respect. A couple of names of present-day heavy metal bands I rate: High Spirits and Black Trip.

Bandemonic, Night or Toledo steel are bands that have similarities with your style, do you know them?
Unfortunately I don’t. Thanks for the tip off though, as I will check them out.

Where do you see the band in 3 years time?
A bit more bald, a bit more grey and a bit more jaded. Beyond that, hopefully with another album and an overseas tour under our belt

Finally, could you leave a message to your fans?
Thanks for the support so far. We appreciate it. Convent Guilt fans are the ones who realize music is more about passion and feeling than crystal clean perfection; about catchy songs rather than technical drudgery; about starting fires rather than putting them out. You are what hard rock is about.

Thanks so much for your time and I hope to see you soon on stage! Cheers

Thanks mate, all the best to you and your ‘zine. Give us a stage and we’ll give you a show!

REVIEW OF THE ALBUM THE END IS WRITTEN, BY DOOMOCRACY

Doomocracy is a doom metal band from Greece, formed in 2011, looking for the roots of the doom metal scene like Candlemass, Solitude or Black Sabbath; signing with Steel Gallery Records in July 2014 and releasing their first album late September 2014. The band is comprised by Angelos Tzanis and Harry Dokos on the guitars, Michael Stavrakakis on the vocals, Minas Vasilakis on drums and Manolis Schizakis on the bass.

Doomocracy style is based in the old school doom metal as their main influence, you can find also lots of palm muted riffs melted with power metal feelings and some slow paced thrash metal elements here and there, instrumentals bend into progressive territory mostly on the solos creating an unique sound, remarkably notorious due to the high pitched clean vocals, more proper of power metal or speed metal bands, but fitting perfectly with the rest of the band; really appreciable the clean parts combined with brilliant aggressive sharp techniques remembering the style of bands like Oliver Magnum.

The album starts with Sadness and Hesitation, as the double pedal combined with an awesome pure doom riff take you to the genuine style of the band, remarkable the powerful energy of the bridge and chorus, dripping epic melodies in a slow mid tempo pulse and well linked with Faceless, offering another mid tempo shot of power doom metal, this time the vocal performance is outstanding as well as the harmony between guitars and drums.

Doormacht (Der Apokalyptische Untergang) develops a slow paced thrashy riff enriched with a constant mid and high pitched vocal play, as The Celephais Curse main riff gives you the alert of an apocalypse feeling, following the same patterns but adding more double pedal to the mixture, good headbanging bridge being one of the strongest parts of the album.

The end is written heralds one of the best riffs of the band, followed really well by the doom metal slow pulse, the vocal interpretation is awesome from start to finish. Guitar solos and double pedal drums make this song a good highlight of the album as Emissary of Vengeance goes in crescendo to a light mid tempo beginning evolving to one of their best choruses and excellent high ranged screams, taking out the aggression of the true metal, really headbanging and perfect for singing along with the band if you catch them on tour.

Hanging Puppet begins also with an ascending progression using sharp styled vocals in the verses and a long chorus, always backed by a sophisticated technical guitars and drums, the solo in this track heralds some oriental feeling on the melodies, resulting in a great act with a good harmony with all the band members.

The last track, Sins, contains two sections well marked by the role of the vocals, the melancholic ballad is so well played that gives it an extraordinary intensity with the high and low melodies, one of the best performances that explodes into their fastest tempo shot releasing the full power of force and hate, headbanging masterpiece always with the melodic chorus sign of the band, also great job on the solo being as usual perfectly technical leading to an intense ending becoming their best song.

The end is written will be a perfect gem for every doom metal maniac, on top of this, the band's influences let them forge a powerful epic feelings to their compositions, mastering a technical power-doom metal that will be well recognized by the international metal scene.

REVIEW OF THE ALBUM GUNS FOR HIRE BY CONVENT GUILT

Convent guilt is a classic heavy metal band from Australia formed in 2010 and releasing their first demo in 2012, they are releasing their first album Guns for hire the next 10th of October 2014, via Cruz del Sur Music (LP) and Shadow kingdom Records (CD).

Their influences comes from the early hard rock like ACDC at some points but adding a good dose of classic NWOBHM all over their compositions, you will find heavy metal elements from Holocaust, Savage or Fist with also epic details seen on bands like Virtue or Overlorde, all of this built over well established 70s heavy metal structure.

Angels in black leather brings you up just like Stand to fight from Virtue does, like a shot of heavy speed metal with certain elements of epic and power verses, exploding with their best chorus becoming their best hit and slowed down with Don't close your eyes, returning to those early ACDC style into scene back again, obviously the blues hard rocker style they spread is enriched with a clear epic heavy metal heart in this intense mid tempo track.

Perverse altar kicks in as a real headbanging fast paced pulse, bringing another top shot of the band, so powerful and well harmonized forging a memorable low pitched chorus, giving a real evil touch to the song, great crescendo at the second half and brilliant ending.

They took her away could be among their most original songs, well played on the vocals dancing with the acoustic guitar perfectly, changing intensity with a really epic mid tempo shot continuing with Desert Brat, a mid tempo hard and heavy track with awesome strong pounding drums, one of their best demonstrations of classic NWOBHM influences also seen in Convicts at arms, this time better composed and more melodic song with a really effective chorus.

Guns for hire is the tittle track, offering the perfect combo of hard rock and early heavy metal revealing the genuine sound of the band, outstanding evolution within this track and excellent job on the instrumentals, accelerating the pulse to a breathtaking fast paced anthem with powerful elements we have Stockade, a hit that will take you to a restless head banging bringing memories of Let it loose by Savage, just awesome!

Guns for hire style is part of a new wave of traditional heavy metal bands that are more influenced by the early roots of classic heavy metal, the oldschool sound is managed at perfection and the vocals offer not only the epic sense of the mid 80s heavy metal bands but also develop a really addictive evil feeling.

Convent guilt got the power and the glory of the new wave of british heavy metal with their first album!

REVIEW OF THE ALBUM KINGS AMONG MEN BY CRIMSON SHADOWS

Crimson Shadows is a melodic power death metal band from Canada formed in 2006 releasing their first album Glory on the battlefield in 2012 and wining the Wacken metal battle in 2013 and signing with Napalm Records releasing finally their second album Kings among men the 29th August of 2014. The band comprises Cory Hofing on the drums, Ryan Hofing on the guitars and Greg Rounding on the axes and the backing vocals, Morgan Rider on the bass and Jimi Maltay as vocalist.

Kings among men album heralds an accelerated power metal on the style of Dragonforce developing a majestic epic sound in contrast with the brutal growling vocals sign of a vast death metal influence, including symphonic parts with synth orchestra instruments, this mix of styles work really well and its also combined with melodic clean vocal parts in general.

The album takes us into the action with an epic intro, March of victory, as the orchestra explodes in the powerful fast paced pounding rhythms of Rise to power, being a top track in this album and continued by Heroes among us, following same strategy in a crescendo structure, adding choirs on the background and developing a really catchy chorus, resulting in a good highlights of the band's style and a headbanging epic bomb.

A gathering of kings combines drippings of thrash metal on the verses with fast tempo power metal bridge and chorus being really effective but improved in Maidens call, combining influences from thrash and  death with the power metal soul of the band, awesome changes of pulse, so forceful missile of moshpiting metal in another top track of the band.

Braving the storm starts as a mid tempo double pedal rhythm that obviously evolves to another fast power metal shot, followed by On the Eve of battle, as another epic acoustic introduction leading to freedom and salvation, with a crescendo start and an outstanding structure, with the best job on the growling death metal vocals going high and low pitched combined with the clean melodic catchy power metal chorus, awesome harmony and interpretation of this track by all band members.

Dawn of vengeance heralds another power metal pulse with the usual combo of styles, headbanging as hell, going even melodic on the growling parts.
Moonlite skies and bloody tides follows the same pattern to end this work, forceful vocals all over, but the melodic clean vocal parts doesn't work as good as in the other songs  but the composition and structure of the track is astonishing, the instrumental parts and specially the bass solo is authentically awesome.

Crimson shadows are really in the good path with this release, the album can be a bit repetitive having all the tracks a similar structure and rhythms, but the combination of styles work amazingly well, tracks like Rise to power, heroes among us and freedom and salvation definitely encapsulates the band sound, EXCELLENT job!

Toledo Steel are a classic heavy metal band from Southampton, UK, formed in 2011 and releasing their first demo in december 2012, Toledo Steel have been touring around the country and finally after adding the second guitarist to the band the first EP came out in August 2013, consisting in three missiles of pure heavy metal encapsulating the essence of NWOBHM.
The band comprises Rich Rutter on the vocals, Kyle House and Tom Potter on the guitars, David Lovell with the bass and Matt Dobson on drums.

The ep starts with Alcatraz with a classic heavy speed metal riff, headbanging moshpiting pulse developing a strong straight high pitched vocals, awesome sharp sound all over the song by Rich and axe masters Kyle and Tom, the chorus is also exceptional, made to be singed along in every gig, fists in the air; as we continue with Black widow, taking reminiscences from Iron Maiden and memories of heavier than metal by Skull Fist on the main riff, forging a powerful melodies on the vocals where the lows and high pitched styles are amazingly well combined; well done on the drums creating Judas priest late 70s techniques combined with drippings of power metal styled structure.

Overall this first EP by Toledo Steel  is riveting from start to finish with a crystal clear production, awesome job by every single member of the band, for sure Toledo Steel not only are here to stay, this band will probably be one of the leading bands of the new wave of traditional heavy metal.

REVIEW OF THE ALBUM REDEEMER OF SOULS BY JUDAS PRIEST

Judas Priest seventeenth studio album is out now, Redeemer of souls is the first album in the history of Judas Priest without KK Downing, with Mr Faulkner on the axes and also the return of a classic Judas Priest record after the concept album Nostradamus which was in my opinion one of the best composed works by the metal gods, but it needed more of classic Judas Priest action.

As promised, Judas Priest's Redeemer of Souls is a full-classic Priest work, with reminiscences of previews Priest eras, mostly from Painkiller and Angel of Retribution and also taking a bit from Killing Machine or Ram it down; the album starts with the rain and thunder as a background when Dragonaut main riff explodes in a mid-fast tempo headbanging bomb, Nightcrawler memories with the first verses unveils an epic memorable bridge and chorus, to follow with the tittle track  Redeemer of Souls, one of the most listened tracks being their first song to be unveiled before the release of the album, mid paced act, also with this epic element perfectly melted into most of the songs in the album, excellent riffs on the chorus as the Halls of Valhalla continue in crescendo and the main riff reveals one of this speed heavy metal tracks on the vein of Painkiller or Freewheel Burning, adding the dose of Epic power and an outstanding strong main riff, Remarkable the chorus on the high pitched screams and astonishing verses! Halford scream also in the second half of the track will make this piece one of the all-time classic songs looking face to face to shots like Metal Meltdown or Ram it down.

Sword of Damocles continues this masterpiece as a slow-mid pulse incredibly epic where the theatrical act by Halford is something exceptional, and also remark the composition on the second half of the song to the end, truly powerful.

March of the Damned headbanging rhythm is next, this time the composition has similarities with Ozzy mixed with Priest strength creation, breathtaking song also with reminiscences of the track Metal Gods, that continues with Down in Flames, as another mid paced heavy metal classic, epic verses and hard rocking chorus!
Hell and Back begins with accoustic guitars evolving to a mid tempo track with influences from the Killing Machine era, awesome catchy chorus and excellent evolution to the end of the piece where they introduce guitar elements used in the Ram it Down album, just outstanding and very effective! continuing with Cold Blooded defined like a mid tempo ballad with drippings of Love Bites with a long chorus and outstanding instrumental!

Metalizer explodes with forceful drumbeats, mid and fast changing pulses continuously from verses to chorus amazingly well and effective, riveting from start to finish linking the action to Crossfire, 70s blues influenced hard rocker track with guitar riffs similar as those used in the Ram it down album, Halford vocals are amazing here, mastering again the hard rock and heavy metal screams!

Secrets of the Dead unveils an atmospheric mid slow paced track, perfect harmony on the guitars with the vocals as the background voices appear in the chorus with a superb architecture; but don't relax now because you gotta get ready for another surprise with Battle Cry, as the epic riffs transforms and twist to a epic speed metal piece, straight away you will start banging your head, mid high pitched vocals here are amazing, astonishing job by Halford in this track! Total consistency on every instrument, being another masterpiece inside this Redeemer of Souls, and linking it to the last piece, Beginning of the End, the ballad of this album, acoustic guitars dominate like tracks like Before the Dawn or Last Rose of the Summer; just overwhelming, so intense!

The album also contains five extra tracks that could have perfectly fitted in this long length, like the hard rocker, catchy chorused British steel-like songs Snakebite and Bring it on, or the heavy  mid fast tempo Tears of Blood, stunning Priest classic as well as Creatures, melodic heavy metal all the way. I have to remark the last song Never Forget, acoustic ballad that will get really deep to your heart, outstanding melodies by the metal gods!

Redeemer of Souls is probably one of the best Priest works, being the best since their reunion, Faulkner fit perfectly in the band, what a great job man! and also Awesome job Tipton, Hill, Travis and Halford; everyone here demonstrate once more they are the masters of metal, giving a lesson of metal and being again influence for many new bands for sure.
The album encapsulates many Judas Priest moments from the preview albums like Killing Machine, Ram it down or Painkiller combined at perfection, elevating the range adding this epic style well used since Nostradamus album, every step Judas Priest has made in their history lead to this album, resulting in another Masterpiece of genuine Heavy Metal

THE PRIEST IS BACK

Obey the king is another excellent creation of death metal, theatrical growling vocals and astonishing composition  structure following classical music as a base for the consolidation of the band as a whole, in harmony every time.

Divine Chaos' are influenced by bands like Sepultura or Carcass, who were mainly responsible for developing the early 90s thrash metal and death metal combo.

The album starts with one of the albums hits as a pure thrash metal track, strong and angry headbanging masterpiece, Last Confession delivers a great technical surge from the guitars and outstanding pulse by James on the drums making it a moshpiting intense piece continued by Death toll rising forged with symphonic elements and twisting the best of epic death metal and thrash in a mid/fast changing tempo, and at times, theatrical track where the listener is drawn to appreciate the quality in every band member in detail, truly amazing.

The myth of human progress heralds another mid tempo early 90s thrash metal attack, comprising heavy and forceful verses and dark well done thought-out chorus'. There is a short lull in the attack before they take you back to the deadly moshpit with one of the best of the album, Shadow of God, old school thrash metal headbanging as hell with one of the best catchy chorus' which will be perfect to scream along to at the bands gigs, dripping with breathtaking rhythms as Ignorance Everlasting starts slowly building increasingly into a crescendo of darker sounds reaching a mid-tempo riff that is extremely well created.

Rivers of blood is another of the fast tempo tracks from the album which is dripping with old school thrash fused with death metal influenced riffs, an awesome vocal interpretation with both a high and low pitched harsh style; great tribal ending guys, very effective!

Fields of the Fallen attacks you with the strong sharp axes and a speed heavy thrash machine gun on the drums, with exceptional chorus' where you definitely will break your neck banging your head; this track is full of rhythemic breakdowns all amazingly well linked within the structure of the track.

Sinai Sands is an epic instrumental interlude that take you to the last track, Perpetual War Policy, shooting to kill from the beginning where we find pure thrash metal structure with death elements and dark symphonies; this missile probably encapsulates the style of the band best.

Divine Chaos' first full length album demonstrates a body of work that aims to make you bang your head from start to finish,  James Stewart's drumming is truely remarkable, He is also Vaders drummer and lends the album an unstoppable death/thrash metal combination; the guitar work is exceptional, outstanding and technically superior. The Vocals are in harmony in every song, inspiring hate.

'A New Dawn In The Age Of War' is an excellent album with superb production, riveting from start to finish, a real Thrash Metal Masterpiece in 2014!

REVIEW EP THE ABYSS BY MORTHUS

Morthus is a death/black metal band from Poland formed in November 2012 by four death metal maniacs following their influences of bands like Morbid Angel, Unleashed or Dissection, mixing all that to forge a very sophisticated epic death metal with black metal elements.
The Abyss is their first EP, released last 7th June 2014 and has been recorded and mixed on Mandragora Studios.

The EP starts with Torment representing the Abyss as an atmospheric introduction with screams of agony and chaos that leads to the death metal riffs of hell, mixed with banging thrash metal pulse that continues with Beast from the Abyss, where the guitar riff and the death metal drums explodes in an epic structure, taking the listener to a headbanging track, the riffs are something exceptional and I really have to remark the jobs on the drums, so sophisticated where you can appreciate various different elements and rhythm changes all over. The growling vocals makes the perfect job in harmony with the rest of the band, outstanding straight and powerful chorus also to make this the sign of the band as pure epic death metal masterpiece.

But if you weren't surprised yet, next track called In the White Wolf's Kingdom is going to make you break your necks as they develop a mid-tempo black metal rhythm mixed with the death apocalypse, the vocals here are amazingly well played along with the instrumental. The composition in this track is excellent, creating an old school black/heavy metal contrasts with their death metal elements.

Overall, Morthus forged an outstanding, astonishing first EP, the crystal clear production is something remarkable and enjoyable that will take them to the next level. This is a very professional job and I can't wait to see what these guys can do in the future because If they continue working hard like now, they will go very far to be one of top bands of the death metal scene.

REVIEW ALBUM "OF STONES AND STARS" BY CALADMOR

Caladmor is an epic folk metal band from Switzerland formed in 2001 (under the name Pale) and releasing their first album in 2010 called Midwinter and finally this album "Of stones and stars" released in 2013 with the support of Chrigel Glanzmann (Eluveitie) and Joel Gilardini (The land of the snow, Mulo Muto).

The album starts with The curse of the gods as a fast track of sharp guitars that take you to the folk metal world with added dose of epic style which will be the winning strategy of this band, full powerful chorus and great harmony on the vocals, developing a clear contrast between the growling harsh aggressive side with Maede and operistic soprano Babs singing folk poetry, as it  continues with The Raid as a mid-tempo shot with forceful headbanging rhythm that changes between the dark and lights, outstanding theatrical interpretation in this song,

The tittle track begins, Of stones and stars, as a slow pure folk metal taking you to a far away land when the fast guitar and drumbeats of Dawn of the deceiver break the spell and bring you to the mosh pit with one of the most thrashing style rhythms of the album mixed with modern metal influenced chorus, excellent instrumental, guitars do a positive job, as the flutes and pipes virtuous give the folk sign on this track.

Alvissmal begins with doom intro as the slow folk rhythms create the atmosphere again in one of the best chorus in the album, when the acoustic guitars of Laudine's lament change the tune as a lyrical operistic track, very well composed as the electric guitars and strong drums are in-crescendo during the song; outstanding voice in every aspect, developing multiple techniques of singing styles.

The dark riffs make the contrast with Mimir's born with a headbanging mid-temp
o apocalyptic feeling track to continue with another masterpiece, Nymph's Lure, one of the most intense bombs with a great act by the two vocalists making the perfect theatrical section of the Swiss band.

But this is not finished yet, Heralds of doom takes you to the battle with a full epic folk metal shot, marvellous chorus and  including orchestrated background and headbanging action that will keep your fist in the air, epic track that brings you to the Taberna Trollis, mid-fast tempo track with the most catchy chorus to sing along in the gigs, pint of beer in hand! Enjoyable from start to finish with the last track of the album, Helios sky , being like an epitaph orchestrated ending of sophisticated chorus with multiple vocals mixed in a harmonious canon  that shades to the final silence.

Caladmor really are very experienced in what they do, and they demonstrated they can create a masterpiece of pure Folk metal combined with medieval epic metal with refined orchestral structure album, good production also.
Of stones and stars is the work that will take Caladmor to the leading bands in the world of Folk metal scene, every member of the band work in perfect harmony and I have to remark the excellent quality of the two vocals, the interpretation of the themes are really impressive, excellent job.
