REVIEW OF THE ALBUM COMEBACK BY LEATHER HEART

Leather Heart are a classic heavy metal band from Madrid (Spain) formed in 2008,  now they just released their first full length called Comeback, the evolution and improvements in the sound is more than evident, guitars now have more presence and the instrumental parts in the album are sophisticated and you couldn’t believe this is a debut album at all, these guys have the experience of bands with more than three albums in their backs.

In terms of composition in general the tracks got a more complex structure with changes of rhythm in songs like The Crow or the tittle track Comeback to name a few, and always moving between Judas Priest and Queensryche but with touches of Dokken at some point and an undeniable influence of Dio and Glenn Hughes on the voice, you can check the awesome cover of Black Sabbath hit Danger Zone.

Generally the album moves in a mid to fast paced tracks, songs like Destiny is a clear highlight of the band’s sound and also is one of the best of the album as the mid paced pounding drums mixes in harmony with a perfect structure, catchy 80s revival also seen in Rock n Roll Soul with a hard rocker essence very well created and a headbanging second half of the track.

Depths of space and Hopeless Sinner are two of the best composed tracks as mid tempo in crescendo gems; its also good to mention the track Leather Heart is re recorded for the first album, with a better production and more presence of the instrumentals.

Leaving the best for the last, Restless, the riff is going to take you straight to the mid 80s and just the vocal parts are gonna blow out your mind, great job on the structure and the details of the guitars, continuing with the ballad For You, with good acoustic parts with ascending power being very intense, epic!

Last shot and my favourite is the tittle track Comeback, got a sophisticated structure full of changes of rhythm going fast and slow surprisingly effective, and also combining the best sides of the album, the epic sensation and the passion and intensity of the mid tempo ballads, truly a masterpiece.

Taking the full concept of this record in one word it has to be a masterpiece and one of the best english sung albums ever made in Spain, they improved to a crystal clear production, Comeback got the power and the glory, its headbanging at all times rememoring the golden mid 80s inspiration. be aware of these guys, this is only the beginning of a band that bounds to rule the NWOTHM very soon!

REVIEW OF THE ALBUM RAPTURE AND WRATH BY TRAUMA (27/02/15)

Trauma is a power speed metal band from San Francisco formed in 1981 being well known being Cliff Burton in the band before joining Metallica; Trauma released one album in 1984, Scratch and scream, and then split to be reformed in 2013.

Now Trauma is back! And the imminent album Rapture and wrath is coming the next 27th February 2015 (pure steel records) as a full demonstration of renovated energies since their last work 30 years ago, US pure heavy metal with bay area influences and drippings of Dio meeting Iron Maiden, they were considered into speed metal before but in this album the rhythms are predominantly slow mixed with mid to fast tempo, so heavy - power metal could be the band style precisely, add the exceptional quality of the vocals, high pitched and clean techniques denoting also excellent theatrical parts, and guitars are sharp and well harmonised with drums and bass, showing some technical sections here and there.

Heart of stone Opens the album, and what a song! Fast paced true metal in every chord, one of the highlights of the album that will make you bang your head right away, remarkable chorus with long vocal notes under the speed pounding drumbeats, followed by When I die, as another mid fast injection of heavy metal with drippings of us epic metal, good contrast between verses and bridge and truly intense chorus, vocal parts are great and reminds some Bruce Dickinson influence mostly in the chorus.

The long way home is created as a mid tempo ballad, with a well composed ascending structure that make it really intense, as the dark melodies of Pain start, with a slow to mid paced shot of doom metal influences with Judas Priest memories on the guitar notes, the changes of rhythms are great on the instrumental galloping sounds and the vocal lows and highs.

The walking dead also reminds the dark side of the band as they forge pure doom melodies and transform it in another classic heavy metal mid tempo chorus, as Kingdom come explodes in one of the best tracks of the album, the vocal interpretation is exceptional as the intensity goes and comes from verses to bridge and chorus continuing with Egypt as a good track with oriental drippings on the vocal parts and strong riffs, awesome composition accelerated by the next shot, Under the lights, speed heavy metal with US metal melodies creating awesome rhythm changes that will make you bang your head following the action to Don't tread on me, one of the best interpreted tracks of the album, the vocal parts and guitar melodies herald also hard rock influences, as the last track, Too Late bangs with strong and heavy mid fast tempo riffs, with good details on the guitar backgrounds and drum performance.

Trauma are reborn in this album denoting a young feeling energy in every song, some of them are brilliant, heart of stone and when I die definitely are the best cuts of the band, losing grip as the album continues but catching the listener attention at the end with good theatrical interpretations and excellent compositions.

Overall Trauma forged a good album, not at the level of other young bands of the NWOTHM but as a return from the darkness, it's an excellent point of entry.

REVIEW OF THE ALBUM INNER CITY WOLVES BY JOHNNY TOUCH

Johnny Touch is a Traditional Heavy-Speed metal band from Victoria, Australia, formed in 2008 and releasing their first demo in 2010 and a couple of splits in 2012 and 2013, to finally sign with Shadow Kingdom Records releasing their first and very awaited full length called Inner City Wolves

The current line up consist in Pahl Hodgson as Lead Vocals, Jamie Whyte on Lead Guitar, Inphiltrator on the  Bass Guitar and Denimal on drums.

Johnny touch combines a style taken straight from the true metal flames from the 80s, being quite appreciable elements of Judas Priest, Dio or Maiden, among essential touches from the NWOBHM, also enhanced with technical instrumental patterns where guitar shredding and detailed drum compositions are melted on the band's soul, special mention to the high pitched and sharp vocal style, remembering cult bands like Oliver Magnum and creating the basic environment to be included in the true metal scene like bands such as Metal law, Razorwyre or Air Raid among others, becoming part of this huge explosion of true metal worldwide.

The album starts with It's alright, perfectly follows the description of the style above, pure 80s heavy metal, non-stop headbanging piece with an excellent performance on the vocal parts with high and low pitched parts continued by The Metal embrace, curiously bringing good memories from the Dio hit We Rock, but evolving in a darker and more aggressive structure, the vocals are well backed and the chorus is catchy and really effective.

Lady stutter goes in ascending intensity from acoustic to a mid tempo melodic ballad, great play on the vocals, the technical drums and guitar shredding, but what its superb from this track is the progression, with galloping pulse evolving to an epic ending.

Radiation axeposure takes to the limit the exceptional qualities of the guitar shreddings, being a pure demonstration of guitar virtue as Dishonourable discharge explodes like a pure speed metal bomb taking the listener to the pit with a really good harmony within all band members, this time the band use some power metal drippings, becoming one of their best acts.

End of daze acoustic ballad entry is soon accelerated to a really well composed song, with solid and technical structure linked with Bitch of a son, another mid fast pulsed anthem of breathtaking headbanging action.

Finally Black Company is full of melancholic melodies in slow to mid paced rhythms even with doom side drippings, offering a high contrast when sadness is transformed to aggressiveness and vice versa; not on their best acts but still good though.

Inner city wolves by Johnny touch is really an exceptional album, containing good technical details, and well feed by the 80s true metal scene, remarkable the Oliver Magnum similarities, that's a really good point. Every single tracks is excellent, obviously they need to improve the compositions and the choruses to be on the top of the scene, but they are taking the right path, can't wait to see what these guys are able to do in the future!

REVIEW OF THE ALBUM POINT OF IMPACT BY AIR RAID (release date 21/11/14)

Air Raid is a traditional heavy metal band from Sweden, formed in 2009, the style is authentic heavy speed metal influenced by bands like Judas Priest, Agent Steel mainly with drippings of NWOBHM combining melodic and aggressive elements backed by rich compositions, with only an EP Danger ahead, and their first album (2012) Night of the axe, the band already brought true metal anthems to the world like Metal Cult, When the sky turns red or Annihilation to name a few, becoming one of the most promising bands worldwide.

After Michael Rinakakis left the band, Mr Arthur M Andersson became the vocalist of the band, the Halford-Warrant sharp vocal style of Michael will be missed, but at the same time its remarkably extraordinary the quality of Andersson here, bringing a more powerful energy on the style of early Judas Priest combined with elements from Metal Inquisitor or Riot enriched with sharp aggressive and clean operistic high pitched qualities.

The new line up is Mr Andersson on vocals, Stormchild and Johnny Nightshredder on guitars, Rob Thunderbold on bass and Dave Destructor on drums, and a new album is forged out of the flames of metal, due to be release the next 21st November 2014 via High Roller Records.

Bound to destroy opens the gates with memorable guitar riffs making you bang your head from the very first second, the melodic vocals bring a brilliant epic sense to the action continuing with one of the best tracks of the album, Madness, the entry of this track attacks like a powerful missile to your brains, creating another catchy chorus to be screamed at the gigs, the job on the axes together with Andersson performance is outstanding and forceful, definitely a masterpiece
As the acoustic elements of Victim of the night take you to a more melodic hard-rockish feeling, the heavy metal sign of the band drives you immediately to the head banging, breathtaking mid-fast pounding pulse, developing another extremely catchy chorus backed by the main riff with a perfect harmony, being another top hit in the album.

Wildfire develops a fast paced heavy-speed metal rhythm with plenty power metal elements, vocal parts evolve from mid to high pitched details, over a symphony of sophisticated guitars with palm muted and impulsive mixed with technical elements, continued by the instrumental Flying Fortress, demonstrating again the virtuous style of the guitars and the good harmony between axe masters with the excellent job of the bass and the remarkably technical drums.

Vengeance follows similar patterns of genuine heavy metal with added epic drippings to the mixture seen on previous tracks, the crescendo structure lead the action to a really well composed piece where instrumentals and vocals stand strong shinning bright linked with The fire within, heralding a mid paced melodic heavy metal shot with progressive elements, containing high influence of Dio on the vocal melodies, the long chorus is awesome and very solid; specially brilliant is the second half of the track with ascending intensity of symphonic elements mixed with Priest's Between the Hammer and the anvil details on the guitar solo and powerful emphasis on Andersson role.

The last track is We got the force, a clear demonstration of where the band stands, creating a pure speed metal track with elements seen on the rest of the album, being melodic and
aggressive, sharp and powerful in equality, and probably the piece that better encapsulates the band's sign, and making clear that past, present and future of the band aims for the true metal.

Point of impact will be an all time masterpiece of true metal, the band developed their unique sound becoming one of the finest bands on the scene, with an excellent production and enforced by that wild attitude performed on stage; all these ingredients will make this album an essential for every true metalhead.

INTERVIEW WITH MAUSOLEUM GATE

Mausoleum Gate first album is coming the next 10th October, you can check the review of the album here.

This is the interview with the band

Hi guys! I admit its a pleasure to have the chance to interview you so thank you very much to you and also to Mr Wolf Mühlmann for making it possible.

Could you tell me why did you chose the name Mausoleum Gate as the band's name?

Well the name describes our music very well and it has the same vibe as Mercyful fate or Black Sabbath for example.

This is the first full length in 6 years, after a demo and a single, how do you value the evolution of the band during this time?

Obviously the line-up change has changed the band also even though many of the songs are from the old line-up period. I think we have moved a bit to the 70's heavy metal and maybe some progressive elements have more creeped in.

The band evolved from classic heavy metal and doom roots then to include Uriah heep-
Rainbow Elements, how do you feel with the result?

Sounds fine. I mean Rainbow -the Dio-era- is very significant influence as well as Heep. But I think that NWOBHM-thing hasn't disappeared and it's still very strong.I think we have took different ideas form the past and made something of our own from it.

What bands mainly influenced the bands sound?

Well the NWOBHM-scene: Maiden,Saxon,Angel Witch and so on. Also Mercyful Fate is  a very big influence. And then there are 70's names like Zeppelin,Sabbath,Purple and Heep. Also there are influences from 70's progressive rock like Yes,King Crimson,Genesis and Jethro Tull. A lot of influences really: I'm also a fan of southern rock and there are AOR and jazz likers in the band too.

The album is about to be released and I know is still early, but for now, how did the media react to this release?

Well the reaction has been mostly very positive. I have read only a couple of more negative reviews which is quite amazing in a way. Our music, our way of playing and our sound are in many ways so uncompromising. Nice to see there are so many who have also saw our vision.

How was the experience of the recording of the album?

It was quite loose and free. We had no pressures at that point because we did it ourselves.Of course when it came to mixing and engineering etc. Wicked Ischanius had the biggest workload on him but for me this was a good way to record.

The band signed with Cruz del Sur music, how do you value the relation with this company?

Well we have been very satisfied so far. The co-operation has been really great.

How many albums have you signed for?

To my understanding only this one. We are a new band and this is our debut  after all.

How do you feel the heavy metal scene in Finland?

Finnish metal underground is very much alive. There are bands like Evil-Lyn,Speedtrap,Lord Fist,Hellspirit,Lantern and Brainthrash among other very promising bands and  a lot of good metal around. When it comes to more mainstream metal in Finland I think it has got a bit generic unfotunately-Mostly soundwise. I wish there would be more experimenting and variation. Maybe it will change I dunno.

Tell me about your gigs life, how active have been the band since the release of your 2013 single?

I must say we are not a very active live band when it comes to the amount of gigs. It's mainly because the scheduling is quite challenging and that is due to day jobs, different places we live and so on. There could be more gigs but I must say we have enjoyed every gig so far.

NWOBHM legends Cloven Hoof shared stage with you, which other bands have you shared stage with?

Well we have played with Lord Fist,Misty Knight,Sarcofagus,Leather Rebels to mention a few.

Tell me your most memorable moment during your last tour.

Well we haven't done a tour but most memorable thing was the first gig with Mausoleum Gate in Metal Warning III when nobody knew us and we just had to do everything to get audience's attention. Finally we managed to do that and that was -and always is- very rewarding.

Which bands would you like to share stage with in the future? And Which countries would you like to visit?

Sabbath,Mercyful Fate,Maiden...well we got on stage with Exciter and Uli Jon Roth in Keep It True Festival if everything goes as planned. Germany is good country to play and U.K of course, Japan would be really exciting too!

What are the plans now that the album is out? Could you anticipate some details about an imminent tour?

We just take a little look here how the album is doin' and start to rehearse for the upcoming gigs. There are some plans before KIT but nothing confirmed yet.

Lost beyond the sun is one of your best compositions, could you tell me how do you feel with that song?

That's a nice one. A real nice one. It wasn't so planned it evolved almost by itself. The parts just came up.Really natural process.

Which is your favourite mausoleum gate song?

Lost Beyond The Sun,Mausoleum Gate and Demon Droid ( I love guitarharmonics in that!)

Last but not least, could you leave a message to your fans?

Stay Heavy and Keep On Metal Forever! Never Ever Surrender!

REVIEW OF THE ALBUM DEAD WINTER SUN BY BORN OF FIRE

Born of Fire was formed back in 1998, in Arizona (US) releasing their first demo a year later and a first full length in 2000 called Transformation, comprising a sophisticated power metal style well accepted by the international media. After a 3 tracks EP the band took a lull of 10 years just to come back with renovated energies in 2012 releasing the compilation album Anthology via No Remorse Records.

Born of fire then signed with Pure Steel and are ready to release their second full length the next 14th November, Dead winter Sun, heralds notorious progressive drippings under an American power metal structure, lots of changes of rhythms in the compositions and the inclusion of orchestrated elements combined with the melodic electric guitars, and no doubt, the vocals are in the clean, melodic and mid high pitched style on the line of bands like Queensryche, Fate Warning or Crimson Glory.

Cast the last stone starts the record becoming part of the highlights of the album, awesome from the mid tempo pulse with melodic vocals to a catchy chorus linked with Dead winter sun, the tittle track of the album, being another top track of genuine progressive American power metal, slow to mid paced track on the line of Queensryche.

Echoes of the lost goes in crescendo to a mid pulse intense anthem with one of the best vocal performance well backed by orchestra and electric guitars as the Hollow Soul riff take you to an awesome mid paced trip of epic verses and melodic progression with outstanding interpretation on the vocals, then the double pedal drums introduces the listener to the aggressive headbanging song In a cold world containing some modern elements but very much on the line of the band's style, excellent the changes of pulse and the vocal perception.

Last goodbye and Tears are the ballads of the album, with a good amount of intensity and also enriched with a refined composition that in general has been taken care in every detail, the acoustic guitars and violins play definitely a very well performed role.

As the symphony of Speed of dark opens in very well produced dark atmospheric feeling its the turn of Spiritual warfare, continuing the usual rhythm patterns of the rest of the album, with remarkable job of the vocalist creating a good high pitched pace, and also the harmony between the guitars and orchestra elements are brilliant.

When hope dies explodes in a fast tempo pure power metal act, the progressive drippings are leaded at perfection by a combination of power and aggressive elements, superb performance in this track, remarkably their best hit to finish the album.

The album in general is awesomely produced, and the details have been taken care denoting a hard job well done, every song is sophisticated in the compositions and the vocal parts are remarkably brilliant, but looking the album as a whole, you'll find the pulse in general follows the same diagrams, feeling some times the need of faster rhythms or more straight choruses.

Excellent album though, Dead winter Sun remarks the reborn of this band, burning brighter than ever with renovated power!

REVIEW OF THE FIRST ALBUM BY MAUSOLEUM GATE

Mausoleum Gate was born in 2008 in Finland as classic heavy metal band, releasing their first EP in 2010 "Gateways for the wicked" having the chance to gig together with bands like Sarcofagus or Cloven Hoof. After some line up changes, the band finally was completed with axemasters Count LaFey and Kasperi Puranen, Oscar Razanez on drums, Wicked Ischanius on the bass and VP Varpula as vocalist; creating their first single in 2013, Obsessed by metal, and signing with Cruz del Sur Records for their first full length coming next 10th of October 2014, under the name Mausoleum Gate.

Mausoleum gate reveals one of the most promising performs of the year, in matter of a style combining the 70s hard rock heavy metal with the early NWOBHM, sharp melodic guitars and a Deep Purple vocal style, as it starts with the fast paced Magic of the Gypsy queen when Rainbow meets Deep Purple, developing an excellent rhythm with even forceful verses taking you to the top with a straight powerful chorus, and continuing with the roots of 70s heaviest patterns, Demon Druid kicks in as a mid tempo act with a remarkable progression that will take you back in time based on the sound and also on the attitude.

As we continue through this time machine with Lost beyond the sun, the drums reveal a ballad that could be the equivalent of the Temple of the king by Rainbow but with added dose of powerful intensity, changes of pulse and an outstanding interpretation, a true masterpiece from a new band.

Accelerating the pulse we have two pure classic heavy metal tracks, the impulsive headbanging Mercenaries of steel on one hand and There must be demons on the other hand, bringing an early Iron Maiden sensation all over the track mixed with brilliant epic drippings.
The best is yet to come to finalize the album, the tittle track Mausoleum Gate heralds a 12 minutes masterpiece as they take the listener to an epic trip of high intensity verses, with slow mid tempo pulsed rhythms, with one of those true metal chorus to be remembered, performed along a crescendo structure that effectively comprises the sound of the band.

Mausoleum gate debut full length will be an impact on the classic heavy metal scene, offering influences from Uriah Heep, Rainbow or Deep purple on one side but also influenced by the steel of Judas Priest or Iron Maiden at their early stages, creating their own sound, with remarkable work on the keyboards and guitars in every single track.

Mausoleum Gate released a cult masterpiece album that every NWOBHM maniac will like!

REVIEW OF CITY OF GOLD BY STRIKER

Striker is a speed power metal band from Canada formed in 2007 being one of the first bands to revive the sound of the 80s true metal in the well known New wave of traditional heavy metal, releasing their first demo in 2008, EP in 2009 and first full length Eyes in the night, in 2010 being one of the best speed metal releases of the year and also a good influence for new young metalheads hungry for true metal action; Armed to the teeth was released two years later, 2012, increasing the quality of their sound to a new level and after two years of hard work, their new album City of Gold is ready to be released the next 29th of August via Napalm Records.

Striker new album City of Gold is forged with forceful power speed metal riffs containing some modern heavy metal moments and old school thrash metal drippings, not only being influenced by the power of Crimson Glory, the dangerous sharp wild steel of Judas Priest or the melodic technique of Dio, now the thrash metal force of Exodus come into scene at some parts.

The album starts strong with the pure heavy speed metal Underground, denoting some modern melodies but keeping the roots of the classic metal flame burning bright; continued by the tittle track City of Gold as a headbanging mid tempo anthem that heralds a fist in the air feeling on the chorus,  well combined with the high pitched vocals on the verses, remarkable job on the guitars, being impulsive and wild. Start again continues the mid fast pulse with drippings of 90s thrash metal melted with powerful vocal parts between Dio and Bruce Dickinson style.

The 80s revival from this band doesn't finish on the aggressive heavy speed metal, they are over the top of the melodic hard rock with Bad decisions, bringing memories from Love ain't no stranger by Whitesnake but improved with the wild sign of the band, one of the surprises of the album that improves in every track.
Crossroads bring you to the mosh pit accelerating the pounding drumbeats in a speed power metal blast with a very straight  aggressive style on the vocals, also used on the following track All for one, this time more melodic on the vocals creating a genuine power metal base and chorus.

Mind control heralds a mid tempo thrash metal sound with strong pulse with excellent changes of rhythm, very well connected with the most thrash metal influenced song of the album, Second Attack, bringing back memories of Exodus style that will make you wreck your neck fist in the air.
Leaving the best for the end, I find the three last tracks so interesting because contains the most virtuous vocals in the album combined with an excellent compositions, bringing the melodic parts to a pure heavy metal anthem in All I want, with a style between Dio and Dokken, followed by Rise up developing a forceful speed thrash metal containing a style seen on bands like Enforcer and Evil Invaders on the instrumental but with the unique striker style on the lead vocals.

Its the turn for the last masterpiece of the album, Taken by Time, sounds like a combination of all styles the band have experimented along this record, thrash metal base that changes pulses to an authentic heavy metal melody reviving the sound of albums like holy diver by Dio with drippings of power metal, encapsulating the band sound.

Striker demonstrated not only they are capable to create an excellent speed power metal compositions, they went further experimenting with thrash metal and melodic hard rock, resulting in a very rich creation, eleven solid forged, brilliantly produced metal tracks that keep the true metal alive making the listener to play them again and again.

REVIEW FIRST EP LEATHER HEART

Leather Heart are a classic heavy metal band from Madrid (Spain) formed in 2008, with a characteristic late 70's and early 80's style mix of hard rock and heavy metal, similarities with Queensryche and Judas Priest "Point of entry" era and even with influence of Dio in the composition of the instrumental; and well leaded by a sharp high pitched vocals of Adrian, using sometimes Halford vocal techniques.

They released their first EP in March 2014 and it starts with Nightmares town in-crescendo intro in a dark atmosphere to develop a classic hard rocking riff, with reminiscences of Queensryche, well done on the interpretation of the vocals as they continue with Take my breath away, powerful pure heavy metal start, in the world of Hot Rockin' by Judas Priest and Stand up and shout by Dio, excellent long chorus and headbanging rhythm to finish with an addictive ending.

After this breathtaking track is the turn of Black as night, late 70's hard rock style and awesome chorus are the strongest points in this song, to follow with Don't you go, the gem of this EP; slow start and change of rhythm to the headbanging attack, remember "the voice of the cult" by Chastain? That's a weapon very well shot in this piece, more direct chorus to sing along in the concerts. Finally is the turn of the tittle track Leather Heart, heavy-hard rock mix, very well composed and also the sign of identity of the band, Dio style all along the way.

Overall Leather Heart offer an awesome composition, following the steps of the metal gods and keeping the flame of the classic heavy metal sound burning bright. New wave of British heavy metal old school like the old times! They will have work to do, but really, I can't wait for the next album! They are young blood and doing what they like the most, heavy metal, so Keep on Rocking guys!
